I just ordered a 5K to go along with my new Beyerdynamic T5s for portable use in my home. With their low impedance and high sensitivity, the Beyers don’t really need an external amp, but what drew me to the 5K is its functionality as well as its potential use with other headphones or IEMs I might acquire in future. If I understand correctly, the only additional item I will need in order to connect to my iPhone 14 is an Apple lightning to USB-C adapter, right?
Thanks!

Comment on KZ To Release Their 1200th Earphone Model by Joseph Flemming https://www.audioreviews.org/kz-earphones/#comment-1607 Fri, 05 Apr 2024 12:52:03 +0000 https://www.audioreviews.org/?p=76643#comment-1607 My first KZ experience was the forgotten RX, and soon after, the ZS … wait for it… 1. Yes, the ZS1. Dual drivers was fascinating for me, and to this day, that old set was one of them most comfortable KZ model ever made. I got a perfect seal every time, but the treble wasn’t that great despite the set having two drivers. upgrading to the ZS5 and later ZS6 was like discovering new levels of Heaven, and after that, I bought a few cheaper sets like the ZS4 and ES4, then decided to be content with that I had. Bought one of KZ’s first gen TWS sets which were bad and had no bass, but the SKS came out and it was fairly fantastic in comparison. I used those light blue wireless earbuds for years and the battery life never degraded. Got back into the purchasing KZ when I decided to try their new AZ20 bluetooth adaptor. Got the EDX PRO X because they were the latest and greatest 11$ set, and they fell flat. my EDX sounds better still. Then I splurged and the the Symphony, which, after lots of listening and burning in, blew my mind. I still think they have just a tad too much bass, and kick drums literally feel like someone kicking my ear (on the AZ20 with full power mode on) which gets annoying, but let’s just say my first experience with a planar driver has me fairly obsessed. Music just sounds so much more…musical, especially intense music. I’m still interested in some sets like the D-fi, Krilla, and AS24, but I really don’t need any more earbuds. As it is, I have like 6 old KZ sets I tested against the best ones I have and decided I don’t need!

Comment on A3000 – Another final Quality Lesson by Alberto Pittaluga (Bologna, Italy) https://www.audioreviews.org/final-a3000-review-ap/#comment-1606 Wed, 03 Apr 2024 08:10:00 +0000 https://www.audioreviews.org/?p=37115#comment-1606 Hello. It’s all a matter of personal tastes, and the more so in this particular case.

See, if I were a rock lover I would probably not choose any of the A series in the first place – their note weight being all too “slim” to pair coherently with that genre’s “nature”, at least for my history, culture and therefore expectation.

For acoustic rock / progrock (say… Genesis) I’d gladly accept some compromise on layering in exchange for a more “rock-resonating” timbre so I would probably go for final E4000, tanchjim Oxygen, Intime ShoDD. E5000 an option ONLY IF you can afford – both from the economic and logistic standpoints – a suitable source.

Hard(er) rock (grunge, punk, metal) is where it gets tricky as the mess those authors do with apriori overexhalted bass kinda segment the audience. Who wants to enjoy them “as they hear it at one of their concerts” (where _distortion_ is king…) by definition will NOT want an audiophile solution, which is why they often keep sticking on “classical DD tuning” in the lowends etc. Viceversa, those who dig for good separation and layering even in those situations will want faster transients in the low end, and a non-excessive presence treble while still keeping high octave up (otherwise the whole stage collapses to room size).
That’s a situation where some would go for final A3000 (not A4000 – too ethereal – nor A5000 – treble would go shouty), and I would also consider an alternative I recently assessed – that being Simgot EA1000. Should money not object, however, I would probably settle onto final B3.

Hope this helps 🙂

Really a good review. I am stuck in between which one to between A3K vs A4K. I mostly listen all genres of rock starting from acoustic to metal. I care more about timbre and musicality of an IEM. Which one do you think should I choose

Comment on ddHiFi TC01A and TC01C USB Adapters Review by Solar Fox https://www.audioreviews.org/ddhifi-tc01a-and-tc01c-review/#comment-1604 Wed, 20 Mar 2024 02:58:45 +0000 https://www.audioreviews.org/?p=74549#comment-1604 Hello,
Maybe this will sound like snake oil but… i have Tempotech Sonata E44 DAC and usb type-C to Type A came with that DAC is soooo bad in sound that high tones cut your ears on half and it`s so harsh. No wonder why everyone who make a review of that Sonata E44 DAC on PC-Laptop say that DAC is very harsh. But, it not DAC harsh at all, bad sound is coming from that small ADAPTER!!! I have 5 different Type A to Type C Adapters and non of them sound harsh or even close to original one that come with DAC.
So if you don`t hear any difference, your adapter is good or your equipment or headphones are not good enough to hear difference.
P.s. Remember!!! NEVER!!! use anything in any audio path that is magnetic to magnet. That will instant ruin your sound like that cheap adapter who is also made from STEAL??! not COPPER and it`s magnetic.

Comment on Calgary Arts Academy Knobhill Nightly Leaf Blower Noise Nuisance – Seriously Unneighbourly! by Jürgen Kraus (Calgary, Canada) https://www.audioreviews.org/calgary-arts-academy-leafblower-noise/#comment-1598 Fri, 01 Mar 2024 16:54:21 +0000 https://www.audioreviews.org/?p=64076#comment-1598 In reply to Propertywerks.

They asked the contractor not to make noise before 7 am. This works somewhat, as they don’t come before 6 am anymore. Sundays, they typically blow us out of our beds at 8 am.

Since the school has >400 m of walkways, it takes them up to 1 hour, put to 1.5 hours. Independent of time of day and night, this can be annoying.

My go bar was running hot and then the sound cut off while driving 150ohm earbuds listening to DSD64 tracks. It happened around 3rd or 4th tracks. I thought it was as app problem, then I tried it on another app and the same thing happened. After perusing your and Alberto’s reviews, I think it was because it was drawing more power than what my android phone was able to give. When I saw your iPhone SE setup, I thought of another gadget that I already owned which will allow me the same setup, i.e. ddHifi tc28c pro. Sure enough, repeating what I was doing resulted in no cut off and go bar running less hot. It’s really not a practical solution as it means an extra thing to lug around, but it works. Just sharing my finding and hope it would help others encountering the same problem. Now, I need to check out the new firmware.
